WINSTON-SALEM, NC- The Davis & Elkins Senators opened their spring break trip today against CIAA for Winston-Salem Rams.
The Senators (1-8) dropped their eighth game of the season by a score of 4-to-1 to the host Rams (12-11).
Junior right handed pitcher Josh Kehr took the hill for the Senators, looking for their second win of the season. Kehr gave his second outstanding performace in as many starts but took the loss after going seven strong innings. On the day Josh allowed three runs, two earned, on five hits while walking three and striking out five.
The Senators hitters collected four hits and one run. Trailing in the top of the ninth, the team still had a shot to tie the game.
With two out and two runners on base, Junior 1B Treavor Dubiel lined a shot into centerfield to score Kyle Crist with the only run for the Senators. Dubiel, being aggresive on the bases, tried to stretch the hit into a double and was thrown out standing up going into second base to end the Senators rally.
Davis & Elkins returns to the diamond tomorrow March 7th, at 1pm against St. Augustine's College at the USA Baseball Complex in Cary, NC. Junior Tripp Staley will take the mound in game one while Junior Drew Ford will be making his first start of the season in game two.
