The Senators (10-15, 6-7) took to the field today in WVIAC action against the University of Charleston.
Charleston took both games by scores of 6-4 and 5-4.
Junior Josh Kehr (1-4) took the loss in game one. He gave up five runs (three earned) on 10 hits in 4 1/3 IP, walked two and struck out three. Freshman Jake Smith pitched the final 2 2/3 innings giving up one unearned run on one hit and walking one.
Senior Brenton Kopecek was 2-for-4 with a 2B and a solo homerun. Freshman Lance Vannoy was 2-for-2 coming off the bench with a 2 run double while Junior Mike Mroz was 2-for-3 in the game.
In game two, Davis & Elkins jumped out to a 4-1 lead after three innings behind Senior lefty Zach McElroy. McElroy worked 4 2/3 innings giving up four runs (two earned) on five hits with two strikeouts. Senior John Commins came in with two outs in the 5th inning but was unable to hold the lead. Commins suffered the loss to drop his record to 1-2 on the season.
Once again it was Brenton Kopecek that provided the power as he lifted his second homerun of the day past the left field fence in his first at-bat of the game. He would finish the game 2-for-4 with a homerun, a double, one run scored and an RBI. Junior Kyle Crist was 2-for-3.
The two teams will conclude the three game series tomorrow afternoon at 1:00 pm with a single game at Harpertown Field on the Davis & Elkins College campus. Junior Tripp Staley takes the mound in hopes of avoiding the sweep.
