WVIAC Announces Men's Soccer Accolades

PRINCETON, WV -The University of Charleston, fresh off an undefeated WVIAC regular season and a WVIAC Tournament Championship, garnered the league's top men's soccer player and coach. The Golden Eagles' Rob Vincent earned WVIAC Player of the Year honors while Chris Grassie was tabbed the Coach of the Year for the second straight season. Davis & Elkins midfielder Oliver Bienias was named Freshman of the Year.

Vincent, a senior midfielder from Liverpool, England, helped lead UC to the regular season and postseason titles and claimed his second Player of the Year award. He led the Golden Eagles with 26 points on nine goals and eight assists. Vincent produced three game-winning tallies while starting 17 matches thus far. He ranks among the league leaders in game-winning goals (first), points per game (third), points (fourth), goals (fifth), assists (fifth), assists per game (fifth) and goals per game (sixth). Vincent guided the squad to a No. 2 seed in the Atlantic Region in the upcoming NCAA Men's Soccer Tournament.  

Bienias, a rookie midfielder from Apenweier, Germany, helped the Senators to a No. 4 seed in the Atlantic Region. He produced 11 goals and three assists for 25 points while guiding D&E to a No. 2 seed in the WVIAC Tournament. He led the squad to the WVIAC Championship game. One of his goals was a game-winning tally. Bienias was in the top 10 of the WVIAC in multiple categories, including goals (third), goals per game (fourth), points (sixth) and points per game (sixth).

Grassie, in his second year at the helm of the UC squad, led the Golden Eagles to a 13-1-4 record, including a 9-0 mark against WVIAC teams. His squad is ranked in the top five by the NSCAA. Grassie had seven players earn all-conference accolades, including five that earned first-team honors.  

UC and West Virginia Wesleyan each had five first-team members. Davis & Elkins, and Shepherd placed two on the first team while Seton Hill and Wheeling Jesuit each had one first-team selection.
