SHIPPENSBURG, VA - The Davis & Elkins women's basketball team defeated Shippensburg University 65-60 Friday night to win the opening game of the season.
The Senators struggled to start the game and trailed 26-8 at the 7:37 mark of the first half, but regrouped to trail 37-27 at halftime.
Alicia Lentz scored at the 9:37 mark to knot the game at 46, and then the Senators took the lead at the 7:17 mark off two free throws by Jorden Lykes and never looked back.
Lykes led the Senators with 22 points and finished 10-for-10 from the free throw line.
Page Turner added 11 points and Alicia Lentz finished with 10 points, 7 rebounds and two blocks.
Maquasia Ferebee produced a solid effort off the bench with six rebounds and five steals.
D&E (1-0) finished with 18 offensive rebounds, while Shippensburg (0-1) finished with six.
Shawna Wert led the Raiders with 12 points.
The Senators return to action on Saturday for a 1 p.m. contest with Saint Augustine's College.
