SENATORS STOP CARDINALS IN WOMEN'S BASKETBALL

ELKINS, WV -Sophomore guard Rachel Gostomski scored 21 points and senior forward Victoria Lyles added 13 to lead Davis & Elkins to a 63-49 win over Wheeling Jesuit in WVIAC women's basketball action at The McDonnell Center on Saturday.

Gostomski was 7-of-13 from the floor with a 4-of-4 effort from the free throw line.  She also added four rebounds and three steals.

Lyles was 4-of-9 from the floor and 5-of-6 from the free throw line, and she added five assists and four rebounds.

Junior guard Page Turner added 12 points, seven assists and four rebounds.

Emily Robinson led WJU with 22 points and Alex Anderson added 10 points and nine rebounds.

D&E led 23-22 at halftime and limited the Cardinals to 27 points in the second half to earn the win.

The Senators shot 37.5 percent (21-56) from the floor while limiting WJU to 39.1 percent (18-46).  D&E was 14-of-16 from the free throw line and had a 37-31 rebounding advantage.


D&E improves to 6-4 overall and 5-1 in the WVIAC, while Wheeling Jesuit falls to 2-7 and 0-6.  The Senators will return to action in 2012 when they travel to Institute on January 4 to face West Virginia State.
