BUCKHANNON, WV -The Davis & Elkins women's soccer team used a strong defensive effort in double overtime Saturday to earn a 0-0 at West Virginia Wesleyan. Freshman goalkeeper Ashley Winkelspecht recorded three saves over 110 minutes to help the Senators secure its first draw of the season.
D&E finished the match with three shots and the Bobcats finished with five. Wesleyan held a 5-1 edge in corner kicks.
Winkelspecht has now recored three shutouts in a row for D&E.
The Senators improve to 4-5-1 overall and 3-2-1 in the WVIAC, while Wesleyan now stands at 6-3-2, and 3-1-2.
D&E returns to action on Wednesday when they travel to California (PA) for a key regional match at 3 p.m.
Both defenses held strong in the second overtime to preserve the tie. Davis made her final save just before the final buzzer to send Manhattan out of Staten Island with the draw.
Manhattan returns to action on Wednesday when the Jaspers host Albany at Gaelic Park. The match is scheduled for 4 p.m.
