Three Senators Earn MEC Softball Honors

BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. -- The Mountain East Conference announced its 2023 softball award winners and all-conference teams on Thursday afternoon and Davis & Elkins had three players represented.

Linzey Allard, Honesty Holt, and Anjolina Gutierrez were named All-MEC Second Team following a vote of the league's twelve head coaches.

The Senators' starting first baseman, Allard, a sophomore led D&E throughout the regular season in batting average at .377. She also led D&E in on-base plus slugging percentage (1.024), hits (61), home runs (7), RBIs (47), and slugging percentage (.599).

Holt, a senior catcher for the Senators was second in on-base plus slugging percentage (.879), home runs (4), and slugging percentage (.494). In her final at bat of the regular season, Holt hit a walk-off home run in the eighth inning on Senior Day in front of a home crowd.

Gutierrez, also a sophomore, led the Senators with 37 runs and 14 doubles. The outfielder was second on the team in batting average (.322), hits (57), and RBIs (33). She was third in on-base plus slugging percentage (.800), home runs (2), and slugging percentage (.446).

Charleston's Hannah Rose was named MEC Player of the Year. West Virginia Wesleyan swept the remaining awards. Kendall Stoffel was named Pitcher of the Year. Andie Dizon was named Freshman of the Year. Steve Warner was named Coach of the Year.

The Senators, who finished the conference slate 20-12, open the MEC Softball Championship Friday, May 5 at noon against Notre Dame College. D&E enters at the MEC South's #3 seed, while Notre Dame enters as the MEC North's #2 seed. The conference tournament will be played May 5-7 at Botetourt Softball Complex in Troutville, Virginia.
